Didier Labarre

 

Born in 1960, Didier Labarre is a professional percussionnist since 1980.

He learned

  • the West African rhythms in Burkina Faso and in Ivory Coast.
  • the afro-cuban rhythms in the I.S.A. (Instituto Superior de Artes) of Havana (congas and batas with Justito Pelladito, Mario Jauregui and Reinaldo Hernandez).

He composes and performs many shows with people such Jeanne Baegne, Michele Mandane, Mama Adama Camara.

He worked also with different "funky", "jazz", "Brazilian" and "latinos" bands such as Mescal, Brinka Sharko, All right, Feso, Chris Joris quintet, Nazare Vania...

He created the groups "Rumbeke", "Kendigo", "Comparsa" and " Congazolina ". He created also his own group of percussion called Afrarola in 1986. He got several percussion awards with Afrarola.

He worked for two years as studio musician with the producer Jean Van loo (Shirley Bassez, Patrick Hernandez, Fun, etc). He worked on the recordings of a dozen CD'S as well as many commercials. He performed with a theater group the show "Sindbad" in France, Belgium and Italy.

He is giving african percussions classes and latin percussions classes in different places in Europe since 1985 (La Vènerie, Répercussions, Flagrant Délit, ...)

He plays with Sewa Kan since 1988.
